Music teachers Chris & Jessie Apple, both of Atlantic Highlands, started Little Rockers – cool kids music classes in 2008. It was originally begun as a way to produce music to use in their own music classes, offered to local Monmouth County families. The band concept has grown to become the focal point for a number of creative/educational projects. In addition to composing and producing the music for their class CDs, the Apples have conceived and produced the band’s music videos, written a pilot and series of webisodes/TV shows to be produced in the future and co-written the band’s school assembly programs.
Along with their friend and fellow Teaching Artist , Liam Moroney, Jessie & Chris formed The Little Rockers Band to give kids a first taste of Rock & Roll that is just for them. They perform full on rock concerts for families everywhere and dream of taking their show on the road on a real rock tour.
The Apples were semi-finalists in the International Songwriting Competition 2010 for their song “Stinky Pete, The Pirate“, from their Ready For Rockin’ CD.
Their latest project is the Little Rockers Radio Show. Chris & Jessie host this one hour radio show that showcases the band’s music as well as other current Kindie Rock bands they like. The show is part talk show, with humorous interludes that entertain and educate and part radio playlist. The show currently airs several times a week in addition to their music being in rotation on the kidZHuB Media Network at kidzhub.com
Jessie is a South Florida native who moved to NJ to pursue her love of Musical Theatre. She started singing with her mom as a small child and began her formal singing and acting training at the age of 8, so she knows the importance of starting music at a young age. After receiving her professional training with a BFA in Musical Theatre, she has worked professionally in regional theatre throughout the country.
Jessie has extensive experience in children’s theatre and performed in the successful show, “Miss Nelson is Missing”, at Actors Playhouse, which was the 2004 National Children’s Theatre Festival winner. She also sang 60’s inspired rock and pop in the show “Cafe-Au-Go-Go” in Greenwich Village, which has come in handy in the band. Most recently, Jessie was a principal role in the New York City Off-Broadway show, “Tony and Tina’s Wedding“.
